Drink This: Year of the Dragon Smoothie

Happy Chinese New Year!

To celebrate, I’ve been inspired to create my own Year of the Dragon Smoothie recipe (after stumbling across a similar idea for the chilly northern hemisphere), that not only tastes delightful, but is sure to bring prosperity and happiness into your life as well.

The recipe is based on the Five Elements Theory, which looks at the five seasons and allocates different elements, health issues, directions, tastes, tissues, and emotions to each – all of which are then used to create optimal health in Eastern medicine.

As it’s summer here, the corresponding element is fire, and the organ of trouble is traditionally the heart, so it’s imperative we all give our hearts a little more love at this time of year. It’s also a time to treat yourself to bitter taste sensations, and all this is made even better by the fact that your tongue is the sensory organ of the moment.

Best of all, in my opinion, is that the key emotion allocated to fire (and summer) is joy. Hooray! So with that, I present you with my Bitter Year of the Dragon Smoothie that is guaranteed to get you smiling, and maybe even falling in love.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Mint leaves (green herb good for heart health)
Raw cocao (bitter taste, incredibly delicious)
Raw almonds (rich in Omega Fatty Acids and good for heart health)
Chia seeds (also high in Omegas, fibre, and protein for energy)
Fresh Baby Coconut – water and flesh (high in potassium, super hydrating, incredibly delicious)
Blueberries (incredible antioxidant, great for your skin, heart, overall health)

And here’s a pretty visual…

To make, throw everything in the blender and whiz. DRINK! SMILE! LOVE!

Stay Happy,

Yaz xx

Looks delicious Yaz! I’ve found your blog all the way from the uk where it’s winter and a chilly 3 degrees! Would love to hear what the winter one is if you get a chance xx

Oh, how exciting. A UK reader. Weee! Jayne, the chilly version has 2 leaves of swiss chard,
1/2 c organic frozen blueberries,1/2 c organic frozen blackberries,1 Tbsp raw honey,1-2 Tbsp Chia seeds,1 c coconut milk. Your kidneys need to be nourished in winter, so that’s why they’ve included dark leafy greens and berries. Enjoy and stay warm, I hear there’s a terrible cold snap coming. Yxx
