And that’s where Salute Your Skin comes in.

It’s no secret your body feels beautiful when you step out of a yoga class, but what happens when you get home?

Salute Your Skin is a two and a half hour workshop that marries the benefits of yoga with an all-natural beauty routine. Held by Yoga Village Founder Nadia Rihani and I, you’ll be guided through an anti-ageing yoga practice before learning natural alternatives to everyday beauty essentials.

The workshop includes:

  • A one-hour yoga practice that focusses on detoxing your skin and reversing the signs of ageing.
  • Expert tips on creating a beauty regimen that complements your yoga practice.
  • Information on the benefits of using natural beauty products and what to look for when purchasing them.
  • Advice on how to ‘feed’ your skin and continue the benefits of yoga at home.
  • A goodie bag valued at over $60.
  • Complementary hand massages for all our guests.

Recipe: Spicy Chicken Sambos Under an Explosion of Greens

Now there’s a recipe title your don’t see everyday, Happies.

As many of you may know, chicken sambos and I go way back. I like mine on bread (or in lettuce cups) and always open. I love an open sandwich. Sure, they’re a little harder to eat but nothing a knife and fork can’t fix.

Anyway, the latest chicken sambo concoction to enter the Trollope kitchen is this: Spicy Chicken with homemade mayo, sprouts, warmed onion (more on that in a minute) and chilli. Lots and lots of chilli. Oh and an explosion of greens, of course.

Here’s the close-up…

And here’s what you need for 2 people…

4 x slices of sprouted bread. Or some form of grainy wholewheat goodness
1 x organic chicken breast
1 x brown onion, chopped finely
1 x bunch of fresh kale or English spinach
1 x handful of finely chopped herbs of your choice
1 x avocado
1 x fresh chilli (or chilli powder to taste)
2 x dollops of freshly made mayo (or really good quality whole egg organic mayo from the health store)
1/2 x packet of sprouts

And here’s what you need to do…

1. Fill 1/4 of a fry pan with water and set your chicken inside. It should just skim the chicken, not cover it. Bring to a slow boil with the lid on and poach until cooked. You might want to add some aromats like a bay leaf and peppercorns. Up to you!
2. Pop your onions in a bowl and pour boiling water over them. Let sit while you prepare the sambos.
3. Now, toast your bread if required and glide on your avocado. Cut your herbs and greens and set aside.
4. If you are using homemade mayo, prepare this now. If it’s store bought, add a few large dollops to a bowl. Either way, once the mayo is done throw in the chilli to your liking.
5. Once the chicken is cooked, remove from water and let rest. Once slightly cooled, chop into fine pieces and add to the mayo mix. Drain your onions and throw them in there too. Salt and pepper to taste.
6. Add your chicken and onion mix over your avocado on toast and top with sprouts, herbs and chopped greens.
7. Enjoy!

Happy Interview: Nicole from Modern Day Hippie

I’d never heard of Modern Day Hippie when Nicole contacted me. She offered to send me a bag of goodies to try. No strings attached. I was chuffed and said ‘of course’ and then carried on with my day. My week.

Next thing you know I’m hooked, Happies. I’m hooked on these insanely clever little packages of goodness that are full of all my favourite things: raw cacao, nuts, seeds and even goji berries. Oh, and did I mention each bag of goodness is raw and organic? It is!

Modern Day Hippie is a company founded by the delightful Nicole Cherry-Bayles, a self-confessed modern day hippie who juggles a family with a business and has eating healthy, nutritious food high on her priority list.

Essentially, MDH’s product list is bags of raw, organic snacks filled with the heavenly ingredients listed above and all you have to do it mix in a blender, roll into snack-sized balls and refrigerate (or in my case, eat). Each bag has a different flavour and if you prefer to go nut-free there are options for you, too. It’s truly a delightful experience and one that takes all the hunting out of gathering your ingredients. Winner!

Me: What inspired you to create such an amazing range of healthy, yummy treats?

Nicole: I am a very busy Mum and found that I was always snacking or skipping meals . I wanted to create a snack which was highly nutritious which gave me the nutrients I required to keep me going. I also wanted to create a snack for kids with food allergies as this has become a big issue. Lastly I wanted to make it easy to make and taste fabulous.

Me: What is your lifestyle philosophy?

Nicole: Know that we are all unique and have different talents. Follow your dreams.

Me: 3. What is your favourite Modern Day Hippie product?

Nicole: I love them all but at the moment my favourite is Fruit & Nut Fantasy.

Me: What’s your fail-proof recipe for dinner parties and general people pleasing?

Nicole: My husband usually cooks when we have people over. We usually have fish and salad or a BBQ with a few different salads.

Me: How do you stay fit, healthy and happy?

Nicole: I play state netball and everyday I try and incorporate some sort of exercise whether it’s just walking around the block or running after the kids. I also love reading books about spirituality and entrepreneurs. Surrounding myself with positive people keeps me happy and inspired.

Me: What advice do you have for women wanting to follow their dreams?

Nicole: Be open to opportunities and ideas, always trust your gut instinct and don’t be afraid to give things ago – it may just lead you closer to a different path that you would not find otherwise.

Me: If you had to choose one magic ingredient to cook/eat, what would it be and why?

Nicole: MMMM this is hard. I am going to generalise and say vegetables. I can have them in the morning for a juice or at lunch and dinner as a salad. You always feel better after a good does of vegetables.

Let’s Get Juicy: Green Juices Worth Repinning. STAT!

Scrap-booking has come oh-so-far and thanks to my obsession love of Pinterest , there are now more ways than ever to get your drink on. Here are 3 of the best green juice/smoothie recipes I’ve found on Pinterest this week…

1. Raw Chocolate & Mint Smoothie from VeganNews Magazine (recipe from HealthIsHappiness.com)

Ingredients: 

  • 1/2 cup raw cashews
  • 1 banana
  • 1/4 raw cacoa nibs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped mint
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 2 pitted medjool dates
  • 2 cups almond milk (or other non-dairy milk) – or more
  • 4-6 ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon maca powder (optional)

2. The Green Refresher from With Style & Grace

Ingredients:

  • 4 romaine leaves
  • 3 sticks of celery
  • 2 green apples, cored and cut into large pieces
  • 1″ of fresh ginger
  • 3/4 – 1 whole english cucumber, cut into fourths
  • 1 lemon, quartered

3. Green Matcha Shake also by Vegan News (original recipe from here)

Note: For those scratching their head, matcha is finely milled green tea. AKA green tea powder. 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 large banana, frozen
  • 1 1/4 cups watermelon, frozen
  • 3/4 -1 cup soy milk
  • 1 tsp chia seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 – 1 tsp matcha powder
